Toxic Love

Sometimes we think it is what we want until we realize it is not what we want!!

Why do we repeat the cycle, knowing it is not good?

We are up in the clouds when someone special talks to us,

Sharing their day, their life,

As we are happy to share their thoughts and feeling,

Though they do not ask about ours,

Quick to shut us down when we start to share.

Drama is a big part of their life,

Thriving as it draws us in.

What about our life,

Do they have time for us?

Their heart says, “It is all about me, me, me”,

“Not you, you, you”.

The table turns as you step away from that TOXIC LOVE,

To realize it is time for us,

We glow with the acceptance that we are important,

Its about our life and what makes us happy,

But before we know it, we spiral into the cycle again,

Being sucked back down into another TOXIC LOVE.

No more, this has to stop!

Time for me not you,

Time to be strong,

Time to stop picking that selfish one,

Time to find one wanting an “US”,

Time to start anew.

One who will lavish me with compliments?

One who will listen about my day?

One who will love the real me?

One who will put that smile in my heart?

One who will open their heart to me?

One who I can love in return?

The cycle has been broken,

As I wave “Goodbye”,

As I say “So long”,

I watch as the TOXIC LOVE,

Finds a new place to dwell,

As I take that special hand and say “Hello” to the HEALING LOVE!
